The Rural Retreat: How Sophie Customised Her Ideal Farm Home

  19 May 2026

When Sophie started looking for a home to suit her property, her requirements were straightforward. She needed a residence that could handle a busy, outdoor-focused lifestyle while providing enough space to manage the daily demands of a working farm.

After researching her options, she chose the Rural Retreat kit home.

A Layout Designed for Country Living

For Sophie, the home needed to be more than just a place to sleep; it had to be a functional space. She wanted a high-quality, low-maintenance home that felt integrated with the landscape.

"We wanted to create a space that suited our outdoor style of living on the farm," Sophie says. "And we wanted a place where we could showcase all of our beautiful things that we’ve collected from around the world on our adventures. So yeah, this is the style of home we chose."

Practical Customisation: The Fourth Bedroom Conversion

The Rural Retreat is known for its spacious four-bedroom layout, but Sophie decided to think outside the box to make the floor plan work for her.

As an avid gardener who grows, cooks, and preserves her own produce, kitchen storage was her top priority. Instead of using the fourth room as a bedroom, she converted the entire space into an extra-large walk-in pantry.

"I think our favourite feature of the home, we converted the fourth bedroom to an extra-large pantry," Sophie explains. "We like to grow as much food as we possibly can, and I love cooking and preserving, so being able to have the space to do all of that was a really important part for us."

This customisation allowed her to keep the kitchen organised and provided a dedicated zone for her projects, perfectly supporting her lifestyle.

The Value of Local Expertise

The team at Sheds n Homes Toowoomba provided the guidance she needed for her kit home project. Being able to sit down in person with Heather and Mick allowed Sophie to ask questions and gain confidence in the technical aspects of her kit home.

"Chose Sheds n Homes after extensive research into the style of home we wanted to build," Sophie says. "And Sheds n Homes had a branch in Toowoomba, so we could go in and sit down and talk to a person about what we actually wanted to do. That was really important to us."

A High-Quality Result

The result is a home that balances comfort with hard-wearing practicality. Sophie’s Rural Retreat proves that with the right kit and a bit of planning, you can create a space that is perfectly tailored to your needs.

"Definitely would recommend Sheds n Homes to our friends and families. We're so happy with the end result," Sophie says. "We wanted to build a high-quality, low-maintenance home, and that’s exactly what we’ve achieved."
